Feature changed by: Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) Feature #309002, revision 4 Title: Ship openSUSE without xine - openSUSE-11.3: Rejected by Thomas Schmidt (digitaltomm) - reject reason: Moving to 11.4 + openSUSE Distribution: Rejected by Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) + reject reason: Even linking to Packman by default is considered to + contravene licensing restrictions. Priority - Requester: Important + Requester: Desirable - openSUSE-11.4: Unconfirmed - Priority - Requester: Important Requested by: Axel Braun (docb) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: ...instead offer the installation from packman by default. The suse-build of xine and some other multimedia stuff is crippled due to some licensing 'restrictions'. So with the standard suse installation it is fairly impossible to watch a simple .avi, as I just learned yesterday again after upgrading to KDE 4.4 As a consequence, no multimedia shuld be shipped with openSUSE. Instead, an installation from the packman repository should be offered for this, as packman stuff is known to work. Discussion: #1: Tom Zöhner (zoehneto) (2010-11-08 18:17:47) It is dumb to ship openSUSE without any multimedia capabilities. Instead there should be a simple way of installing libxine1-codecs from Packman. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/309002
