Feature changed by: Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) Feature #319416, revision 4 Title: Merge kernel-desktop back into kernel-default / kernel-pae - openSUSE Distribution: New + openSUSE Distribution: Done Priority Requester: Mandatory Requested by: Michal Marek (michal-m) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: To allow for easier maintenance of the Leap and SLE kernels, it makes sense to unify the set of flavors where applicable. The SLE kernel has no -desktop flavor and the difference between -default and -desktop in openSUSE is minimal. The proposal is to copy these three settings to - default: * CONFIG_PREEMPT=y * CONFIG_HZ=1000 * vm.dirty_ratio=20 nd drop the -desktop flavor. The rationaly is that openSUSE is more often used on desktops than servers, although the effects of these settings are often overrated. Discussion: #1: Frederic Crozat (fcrozat) (2015-09-02 15:47:00) please note SLED 12 is also using kernel-default (since SLE12 doesn't have kernel-desktop) and we didn't saw any problem due to that. #2: Michal Marek (michal-m) (2015-09-03 10:04:42) (reply to #1) It hasn't been used in SLED 11 either. + #3: Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) (2016-11-16 07:06:27) + It seems that this has been done as of Leap 42.1 (kernel-desktop is not + available from main repos any more). -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/319416
