Feature changed by: Richard Schwartz (rschwartz) Feature #320280, revision 2 Title: Improve out of the box font rendering openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Desirable Requested by: Richard Schwartz (rschwartz) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: Browsing some websites out of the box looks makes the fonts look terrible. Changing the option FORCE_AUTOHINT in "/etc/sysconfig/fonts- - config" to "yes" from the default "no" seems to fix this for me. Other - recommendations I've received are changing USE_LCDFILTER to + config" to "yes" from the default "no" seems to fix this for me. + Other recommendations I've received are changing USE_LCDFILTER to "lcddefault" from the default "lcdnone" and changing USE_RGBA to "rgb" from the default "none". I'm not sure what the effect of those last two are, but the first one seems like a no-brainer to me. + So basically just force autohint, and maybe enable an LCD filter (which + makes sense, how many people still use CRTs?) and subpixel rendering + (USE_RGBA). Use Case: https://www.reddit.com/r/openSUSE/search?q=font&restrict_sr=on I've seen many complaints about the font rendering out of the box, and enabling these options seems to fix it. Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: A better looking distro out of the box is always good. Plus not having to change anything will appeal to casual users. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/320280
