In addition, it would be desirable to use names of existing RAID devices created by other tools (for example in the system bios). Source: comment 20 of bug report #849752. Implementation: The man page of mdadm suggests that these names are stored on disk in meta-data of the RAIDs and that mdadm support reading these.
