Feature changed by: Tim Edwards (tk83) Feature #312309, revision 2 Title: Fix Printing in SuSe by Having gutenprint openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Mandatory Requested by: Private Private (new_user1) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: On Ubuntu there are many many printer drivers on the distribution by default because of the package gutenprint . SuSe has this package in the Repos, but not default. When I tried to set up my printer, nothing but the generic driver was found, but I manually installed gutenprint after 3 hours of searching on Google, and the Driver was there. gutenprint should be there by default. Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: To improve the SUSE experience and to not turn off new users. When I could not find my driver I was tempted to install Ubuntu! (I just installed Suse today). + Discussion: + #1: Tim Edwards (tk83) (2011-05-18 23:06:25) + The gutenprint drivers were installed by default on my opensuse + installation, which was a DVD installation. Maybe it's because you + installed from the KDE or GNOME LiveCD? There is of course limited + space on those CDs, the developers have a lot of trouble squeezing in a + package mix to please everybody. + However, even if the drivers weren't installed it doesn't take 3 hours + of googling and a manual install - just open the opensuse software + installer in YAST, type gutenprint and click install. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/312309
