Since upgrading to 11.1 I switched to using YaST for my package management needs. I follow some Build Service repositories, so frequently there are packages to be upgraded. Unfortunately, compared to Synaptic, YaST's package upgrade - mechanisms are way too unusable. Synaptic had two simple but very - useful features - "Upgradable" and "Upgradable (upstream)" filters. + mechanisms are way too unusable. + Synaptic had two simple but very useful features - "Upgradable" and + "Upgradable (upstream)" filters. "Upgradable" shows all the packages that have newer versions available. "Upgradable (upstream)" shows packages which have newer upstream versions (that is, it won't show "example-1.0.0-1" => "example-1.0.0- 3", but will show "example-1.0.0-1" => "example-1.0.1-1"). This is important since the release version is usually changed on every recompile, and filtering the upgrades by the actual "new version" is - more handy. Without these filters I have to basically scroll through - ALL installed packages, looking for the "blue-versioned" ones. This is - making it simply unusable. Also, adding to the unusability is the - "Installed (Available)" column. The last components of the available - versions are almost always hidden unless I resize it to a quite large - size, and even then, it's very hard to read. Compare it to the - following (both versions can be seen easily): http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/files/www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/nodes... - Steps to Reproduce: 1.
