Feature changed by: Stephan Kulow (coolo) Feature #306339, revision 10 Title: YaST module for setting up local OBS - Buildservice: Unconfirmed - Priority - Requester: Important openSUSE-11.2: Evaluation Priority Requester: Important - openSUSE-11.3: Unconfirmed - Priority - Requester: Important + Projectmanager: Desirable Requested by: Dean Hilkewich (deanjo13) Description: It seems to me that one module that is sorely missing from yast is a local OBS module. It could greatly simplify the process and perhaps enable more people to cut their teeth on how to use it effectively instead of trying to build something on the hosted OBS which restricts what they can build without violating the terms and often involves a long wait to even see if something builds or fails. This whole process in a yast module might encourage people to use OBS. http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service/Build_Service_Installation_Tutorial/ope... Discussion: #1: Michael Löffler (michl19) (2009-04-08 11:16:24) Looks like a useful feature but I think the creation of the module should be picked up by somebody outside Novell. #2: Christoph Thiel (cthiel1) (2009-04-20 17:33:00) (reply to #1) I agree. #3: Dean Hilkewich (deanjo13) (2009-04-23 06:44:15) (reply to #2) The whole idea of setting up an easy local build service is to set the people build what they want. Giving a tool to aid with the setup of a service is no more potentially illegally grey then a compiler that can be used for questionable activities. Novell has no liability in it's use. #4: Duncan Mac-Vicar (dmacvicar) (2009-04-23 09:53:52) (reply to #3) I have no idea what are you talking about. If you _read_ the text above it says: * Novell does not want to restrict people to use our instance because it restricts what they can host there (we don't allow binaries for example) * Therefore a module to setup a own instance of OBS would be real value for the community. And then comment #1 basically says: * Even if it is useful, the module may be done by the community. Novell has a long list of features and fixed resources and can't do all of them, so a prioritization has to be done. There has been no mention that the module has to be done externally because legal reasons. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/306339
