It will not get lost.
Quite the contrary -- it will be very hard to (accidentally) delete
stuff from the old /tmp ;-P

Which I consider a good thing. Dataloss should never happen during an upgrade.

Same here. I also backup /opt, /srv/ and /var, depending on the machine.
