Hi all,
even though Olaf has heroically fixed i4l-base to build again in Factory (https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/741743), I doubt it will work, because not only the now missing header files have been removed from the linux kernel, but also all the accompanying infrastructure...
This happened with
commit 9c3c0c2048149d946d7f3ebdcbe70e2946750bfb Author: Arnd Bergmann
Date: Thu Apr 18 22:43:36 2019 +0200 isdn: remove isdn4linux
which ended up in Linux-5.3.
So should we keep it building or just drop it? Does it serve any purpose without the accompanying kernel functionality?
The dependent packages are not so much:
~> osc -A suse whatdependson openSUSE:Factory i4l-base standard x86_64 i4l-base : capi4hylafax wine wine-nine-standalone wine:staging
abd I'd guess that WINE can be just configured to exclude ISDN functionality.
Any opinions?
Well it's accepted meanwhile, and builds for all targets. Fun. IIRC, the remaining (m)ISDN stack in the kernel/userspace is targeted on routers, that want to provide an internal ISDN S0 interface in order to keep local ISDN equipment working. Unfortunately, there's no much documentation out there, that describes, which hardware is (still) supported, and how it is set up. So, I've no idea, what i4l-base will provide, given the last ISDN landlines are taken off forcefully everywhere now.
