That's almost exactly what this sounded like to me. It did not at all sound like a request for maintainers. It sounded like someone frustrated that MATE wouldn't build for a while and that the maintainer went MIA, so lets get rid of it.
If you care about any open source project where things aren't going quite the way you want, you're far more likely to inspire others to change things with supportive suggestions than pontificating about negative possibilities like how you would leave if you dont get your way.
