Let's say the traditional ntp daemon has not aged very well.. and is steadly bitrotting. until ntimed, which is the reference implementation replacement is mature enough, chrony is probably the best alternative if you need an NTP *server* or a very high precision client. otherwise, just use systemd-timesyncd.
Well, it seems openSUSE 15.0 defaults to chrony, that's what my small laptop got on fresh install.
If it uses less memory, I'm certainly very interested.
