Hi,
Since Microsoft joined OIN, we got permission to use their patents in openSUSE. While the word on exFAT isn't clear yet (and most are awaiting MS contributing exFAT support into Kernel themselves), we can get subpixel rendering related support into distribution right now (following Fedora doing just that [1]).
