Hi, New topic to avoid hiding potentially technically interesting facts behind a desktop discussion. So let me explain the mechanism how the DVD content for Leap 15 is created. The list of packages is not handcrafted but actually computed by libsolv based on a small list of starting points. Those starting points should ideally be patterns. The script to compute the content is called the "package list generator"¹. The input file is basically groups.yml in a special package called 000package-groups². The result of the computation gets written to 000product³, mainly to the file dvd.group where OBS generates kiwi files from. With this second generation of the package list generator I started from scratch with Leap 15. So what you see now there is basically what a default install of KDE resp GNOME has, some packages tested by openQA (that should actually be listed in some pattern instead) plus packages for hardware support (ie packages with modaliases). The DVD content of previous releases and what you still see in Tumbleweed had quite a long list of manually blocked packages. Theoretically we could start adding block lists again with Leap 15. That has the disadvantage to produce differences compared to a network installation, potentially hiding weird dependency issues. So for the case Seife found (fluid-soundfonts) the question is: Do we need that in a default install or not? IMO if it's needed it should be on the DVD. If not, a network install shouldn't pull it in either. IOW please someone fix the packages that recommend such candidates. As a side note the "minimal" server installation also exploded⁴. Help appreciated to take a close look at pattern and package dependencies to optimize default installations. That will also help for having sensible DVD content. cu Ludwig [1] https://github.com/lnussel/osc-plugin-factory/blob/master/pkglistgen.py [2] https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/openSUSE:Leap:15.0/000package-groups [3] https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/openSUSE:Leap:15.0/000product [4] https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1081691 -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
