Problem solved a short time ago :-). The problem was caused by an Addon: All Downloader Professional (ADP). Removed it and problem vanished.
In Firefox version 52.x I have an Addon called DownThemAll! (DTA!) which I use to download files but in FF v58.x it is unusable. I replaced it with ADP under the impression that it replaced DTA! (but never used ADP in FF 58.x).
I have now found that DownThemAll! seems to have been replaced by the Addon called Multithreaded Download Manger which works OK as I just tried it a few minutes ago and it doesn't cause FF to freeze.
Thank you, information saved :-) - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
