Have you tried the other Xorg driver (modeset)? It's been built into the Xorg server since 1.17.x. Uninstalling xf86-video-intel should enable its use, assuming /etc/X11/xorg_pci_ids/modesetting.ids didn't already enable it.
According to Xorg.0.log modesetting is unloaded. Thanks, I will try it. Are there any bad sides of this driver?
Works nice for me with Haswell and with Eaglelake. I have no Skylake to try, but modeset works nice for me also with various ATI and GeForce gfxchips. Other people report variously, with only complaints I remember from recent past coming from gamers. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
