As for Lennart, since he wrote systemd I'd think he would be the definitive source about what it is and is not. No 'alternative" about his facts.

His reality requires everyone using systemd being a developer who is able to rebuild systemd, at will, as easily as changing the contents of a config file with a text editor. Sorry. Most people are not developers in this world, nor do most systems have build environments on them. What he says doesn't apply in the same context as most people use the terms modular.
