I don't know about the patterns in Factory/Tumbleweed. The printing pattern in SLE12 is o.k. cf. the internal SUSE bug https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=885487 where we fixed it and cleaned it up. The most relevant part of that SUSE bug is my comment https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=885487#c3 which reads (there is nothing sectet about that information): --------------------------------------------------------------- A "Printing" pattern should not be selected by default on SLES, perhaps it might be selected by default on SLED? For me it does not make much sense to have a "Print Server" versus "Print Client" naming because I don't know what I should tell users what this actually means. Printing directly on a printer requires "Print Server" but nowadays printing via network usually also requires "Print Server" - unless one is a real minimalist. A "Printing" pattern should contain the binary packages "cups" and "cups-filters" and our printer driver and PPDs RPMs. As far as I know those are our printer driver and PPDs RPMs (binary RPM package names): OpenPrintingPPDs-ghostscript OpenPrintingPPDs-hpijs OpenPrintingPPDs-postscript epson-inkjet-printer-escpr ghostscript gutenprint hplip-hpijs manufacturer-PPDs splix The binary packages that are recommended by those packages must be also installable (i.e. on the same "medium"). Those recommended additional binary packages are: cups-filters-cups-browsed cups-filters-foomatic-rip cups-filters-ghostscript poppler-tools Except the poppler-tools binary package the others belong to "Printing". Additionally the following packages belong to "Printing" and are required by other packages in "Printing": cups-client cups-libs ghostscript-fonts-other ghostscript-fonts-std Therefore in the end a "Printing" pattern should contain those binary packages: cups cups-client cups-libs cups-filters cups-filters-cups-browsed cups-filters-foomatic-rip cups-filters-ghostscript OpenPrintingPPDs-ghostscript OpenPrintingPPDs-hpijs OpenPrintingPPDs-postscript epson-inkjet-printer-escpr ghostscript ghostscript-fonts-other ghostscript-fonts-std gutenprint hplip-hpijs manufacturer-PPDs splix Probably the binary package cups-libs should be in a more basic pattern so that one can install a basic SLE12 system without any package of the "Printing" pattern. ... Also ghostscript (and ghostscript-fonts-std + ghostscript-fonts-other) might be in a more basic pattern... --------------------------------------------------------------- Kind Regards Johannes Meixner -- SUSE LINUX GmbH - GF: Felix Imendoerffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton - HRB 21284 (AG Nuernberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
