Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
This week had more action behind the scenes than snapshots released. In fact only one made it out to the mirrors so far this week (1003).
3 Snapshots have been produced, tested and discarded. The main reasons were:
* 0930: lightdm crashed, affecting all users of this display manager * 1002: Various update issues identified, xorriso existed twice in the repo * 1004: Plasma 5.8 regressions spotted, e.g. clock not shown on panel
Actually, the reason this snapshot got discarded was not a regression of Plasma 5.8, but of a much older request from two weeks ago, the update of timezone to version 2016g. The method the /etc/localtime symlink was created got changed and resulted in a broken timezone after installation, reported as boo#1003324 and https://mm.icann.org/pipermail/tz/2016-October/024280.html openQA didn't spot it (present since 0921), but we noticed it while looking through 1004 and requested a discard for further investigation first. This turned out to be the right choice, as the broken package was about to get submitted as maintenance update to 13.2 and 42.1... Also, we could use the time until 1006 to get a fix for an annoying bug in Plasma into factory, so you will experience an even better Plasma 5.8 after updating! Cheers, Fabian
So you see, when we say Tumbleweed is tested when we release the snapshot, we actually mean that.
And in that one snapshot that has been delivered, you could enjoy these updates:

As you can see, the next snapshots will be loaded with many good things.
Enjoy the updates, and have a lot of fun, Dominique
