Actually in our office nobody is using kde>3.
I'm just wondering why you do a KDE (5) installation then? As has been pointed out already, sddm is only installed by default if you do a fresh installation and select to install "KDE". Granted, that's the default selection, but there's a prominent screen in the installer to change that. And just to mention: we don't even replace kdm with sddm during upgrades.
But kdm was always nice to use for simple login and selecting non-KDE WMs. I don't need more but I don't want less.
Then use kdm if you prefer it, as has been written already. It's still included in the distribution. Or lightdm. Even kdm3 is still there in Tumbleweed at least, and is available for Leap too in the KDE:KDE3 repo (Leap doesn't come with KDE3 any more at all, it doesn't even have Qt3 in the standard repos IIANM).
