If not, if you use ibus or fcitx for intelligent pinyin, did you check if you have a shortcut with Ctrl-N there? (Just guessing by your surname, maybe you did not write anything but English in your whole life, sorry in case).
That is a good guess. I do have Japanese and Chinese input as well for my systems! But there are no shortcuts mapped there.
I just did what you said and here's the really weird part.
Ctrl+N works for New Message when the shortcut is not mapped to any action. But when I reselect the default shortcut again for New Message, it says:
"The 'Ctrl+N' key combination is already used by the New Message... action. Please select a different one."
So it won't allow me to choose the default shortcut, because it says the default shortcut is already in use. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I can confirm this for this system with Leap 42.1. My shortcut cntrl+N points to Nirvana in settings, but it works as expected if the focus is on kmail4 (here I have still kmail4). So I would guess it is the famous "it's not a bug, it's a feature"? Maybe it is by default attributed in kmail by the application and goes into conflict if set separately inside plasma? --- Alle Postfächer an einem Ort.
