Would like to use the grub2 editor kcm-grub2 and installed it on my Tumbleweed. Found no reaction when I entered kcm-grub2 in konsole
No reaction? You should have gotten an error message at least, no? ;-)
If 'kcm-grub2' is not a typo you can use command-not-found to lookup the package that contains it, like this: cnf kcm-grub2 You are right. It was not the reaction I expected ;(
KCM means "KDE Control Module". A KCM is not a stand-alone application, but a module/plugin for KDE's systemsettings ("Configure Desktop" in openSUSE). If you installed it, it should show up there.
Looked after googling into the "configure Desktop" but it is not there.
But: KDE4's KCMs are not compatible with Plasma5 and vice-versa. A KDE4 KCM only shows up in KDE4's systemsettings, a Plasma5 one only shows up in Plasma5's systemsettings5. I think kcm-grub2 is only available as KDE4 version at this point, so make sure you use systemsettings (not systemsettings5).
Downloaded it from a Tumbleweed site http://software.opensuse.org/package/kcm-grub2 version 0.6.4 and it claims : A KDE Control Module for configuring the GRUB2 bootloader Smoothly integrated in KDE System Settings, it is the central place for managing your GRUB2 configuration. In Tumbleweed I suppose nobody is able to prevent using Plasma5 :)
You can "run" a KCM directly via "kcmshell4 name_of_module" or "kcmshell5 name_of_module". For a list of modules, run "kcmshell4 --list" or "kcmshell5 --list". In this particular case, it should be "kcmshell4 kcm_grub2".
Thanks for your help. That worked. Got the editor running. The possibilities of this program was below expectations. It practicaly just does what the Bootloader from Yast does.
