I am using the "solver.onlyRequires" setting in /etc/zypp/zypp.conf, which appears to address a similar item.
Can some of the zypper's here comment, if
/etc/zypp/zypper.conf: installRecommends
and
/etc/zypp/zypp.conf: solver.onlyRequires
That these default as they do is why my new installations are always minimal, so that they can be turned off before the installation is flooded with things I'll never use.
are kind of a redundant duplicate?
Not really duplicate. libzypp is not only used by zypper, but also yast2-packagemanager iirc.
hmm, yes, but zypper itself also requires libzypp. I'd say, one definition is enough, isn't it? I'll take a look at cook up a patch if nobody objects.
Current mageia discussion for proposed distro implementation changes re upstream rpm distinction between suggests and recommends: https://ml.mageia.org/l/arc/dev/2014-09/msg00295.html Maybe the rpm distinction is why there are both *Requires and *Recommends, giving good reason for a distinction to remain? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
