I'm testing an lxc setup on opensuse 13.1 - issuing 'lxc-shutdown -n <container>' doesn't cause the container to shut down. With '-w' it just hangs forever. Googling led me to this: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=30133170
To be added to /etc/inittab:
# 20110419/gj allow to halt by sendig a SIGPWR to init pf:12345:powerwait:/sbin/halt
Next hit: apparently it is a known problem: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Linux_Containers#Container_cannot_be_sh...
lxc-shutdown should be used for clean shutdown or reboot of the container, but only the reboot is working out of the box when using systemd.
Shutdown will be signalled to the container with SIGPWR but current systemd doesn't have any services in place to handle the sigpwr.target.
