Is it not possible to just have one CD with same kernel, basic tools etc? I would think the installer is just a program running on a basic openSUSE... Could the installer not run on the rescue CD system?
Better not. There are CDs dedicated to installation, and they do not contain rescue software. The rescue CD is different and has been requested for a long time.
Also, for what I see, the rescue CD is very minimal, no CPU stress test, no smartmontools,
It contains smartmontools-6.0-5.1.1.x86_64
test-disk,
Contains photorec-6.13-2.1.1.x86_64, which includes testdisk. How did you look at the sofware that was installed? You can see the entire list here: http://susepaste.org/13855134 - -- Cheers Carlos E.
