Dear KDE list,
For those of you testing factory, you could find the first pictures of the new kdm theme for openSUSE 12.2 http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-artwork/2012-05/msg00000.html
In a few day the new branding package will hit factory. And I really would like to get any feedback about the new branding (artwork or factory -ml would be perfect place)
Ok here goes :)
The corners[1] and bottom edge[2] have a dark green solid shadow, this doesn't look so good, it should probably be an anti-aliased grey drop shadow or remove it entirely.
The inner shadow of the text fields or the text field corner decoration[3] is blurred and out of proportion. It looks like it's been stretched horizontally by a few pixels, I think it would look better if it was sharper and the rounding of the corners was the same proportions as the parent box corners.
The white control group box border[4] might be better looking if it was the same dark grey as the seperator lines used above. I think the use of white on light grey never looks clean or crisp and doesn't give the whole box a consistent feel. Also for consistency the padding[4] between the white border and the inner dark grey background should be the same on the left and right as it is on the top edge.
The icons[5] don't contrast well against the box background, more colour& more dark grey or less white& light grey is probably required to make them stand out more.
I don't understand the meaning of a carriage return or enter symbol as a button[6] here. Should I click the button or press enter? If the action is to perform a login then the button should either say "Login" or should have it's icon as a recognized login symbol. The current icon is confusing because I have never seen it used in a button before and it's not something I expect to see in a login dialogue.
The overall grey colour of the box looks slightly washed out on my screen, perhaps because of the vivid green background (which i like very much). It's almost like a little bit of yellow or green is leeching into the box, a slightly darker tone of grey would alleviate this and would also contrast better against the green title text "tumbleweed".
Cheers the noo, Graham

I would like to see the shading around the entire 3 text fields a lot darker. Tabs should be on the bottom so when the user selects a sub menu. The windows should open up below the password and not overlap the other fields. I don't agree especially for very small screen (think about opensuse arm on phones and tablet) we want that :-)

Don't know if you can, but the whole branding is already in Base:System/opensuse-branding package You can cherry pick the kdm-branding from there, it should not need the 12.2 background it use the default one installed so should work out of the box on 12.1+ If I get good feedback and working state, then perhaps it could be accepted as an update for 12.1 but that's another (big) discussion about rules etc ... -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
