After several hours of hair pulling -- and I've got already a grey beard and very few hair :-) :-) -- I tried LILO. Well, what should I say -- it worked from the start and without a hitch. Having had no problems on this systems 'till then. OK;

So, there's still a place for LILO, for the old-timers of us who know how to use it and when it saves our back in dure times.
