Have kernel*2.6.31-8.3*rpm by hand (please substitute * * with <flavour> <architecture>) Boot Rescue system mount <your root device> /mnt mount --bind <your root device>/proc /mnt/proc mount --bind <your root device>/sys /mnt/sys mount --bind <your root device>/dev /mnt/dev chroot /mnt rpm --nodeps --force -Uhv kernel*2.6.31-8.3*rpm Reboot
Or just boot with acpi=off for a day - that's what I do.
