It's been OVER 5 weeks now, and we can't update our beloved OpenOffice, because the packager can't seem to get the 5 "extension" packages over their dependency issues!! Can we expect that to happen in the near future, or do we have to wait for 11.2?
Urgh, I am sorry but I wasn't ware about these problems. Where do see them? In factory? Have you reported it in bugzilla? Have you reported it anywhere at all?
Yes, and others on the opensuse list have also noted it. Even from a clean, fresh, on a new 'puter shipped with Vista and replaced with 11.1 w/KDE 4.1 and updated using FACTORY for updating KDE, it happens "right out of the box" so to speak. The problem has to do withe the 5 "extension" OO packages. I've tried to nudge someone, NICELY, to get it fixed, since it's obvious that it broken, for over 5 weeks!
http://bugzilla.novell.com is always the best place to report bugs. I do not have time to read the many opensuse-related mailing lists and forums. Nobody forwarded me any complains until today. Thanks a lot Marcus Meissner for forwarding your mail to me.
I currently build the packages for 6 distributions: SLED10, openSUSE-10.3, openSUSE-11.0, openSUSE-11.1, SLED11, Factory. I use openSUSE-11.1 on my machine, so I do most of the testing on this distribution.
I do not have time to test on all distributions. This is why the OpenOffice.org:UNSTABLE project is important. I hope that I'll get feedback about the important problems before I put it into the OpenOffice.org:STABLE project.
I can't help you with UNSTABLE, as I don't have a system presently I can dedicate to that.
Hmm, the packages with extensions are missing only in the OpenOffice.org:STABLE project. It is because the packages are built there the older openSUSE-11.0-like way. It needed some effort to fix the split build (openSUSE-11.1-like way) for older distributions and I didn't have time to do it for OOo-3.0.1 (busy with SLED11, no other volunteer).
=> the extensions are not be available for OOo-3.0.1. They are optional packages, so they should not break update. If anyone really need them, he should stay with OOo-3.0 or he could try OOo-3.1-beta from the OpenOffice.org:UNSTABLE project. Alternatively, he could try to find a volunteer to build the packages for him. I would like to concentrate on OOo-3.1. I have hard times with it as well.
I'm not the one to help you with that, so I hope someone else picks up the ball on that one! I'm simply staying with the 11.1 default install as I do want the extension packages.
By other words. You need not wait for openSUSE-11.2. You might need to wait for OOo-3.1.
At least it works, but I would like the updates.
BTW: You might want to watch my regular announces at http://lizards.opensuse.org/category/desktop/openofficeorg/. I mention there also plans and most important changes. They are automatically posted also at http://planetsuse.org/
Should I use another channel for the udpate?
opensuse@opensuse.org would be great!
Note: OOo-3.0.1 caused many troubles because it was built the old way, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=471280. I am sorry for this. I was really overloaded at the time of the release. Nobody reported the problems in the OpenOffice.org:UNSTABLE project in time. I think that nobody really tested it because openSUSE-11.1 was just released at that time and all people played with it. I hope that OOo-3.1 will be much better. Me too! Thanks,
