List,
There are two issues with vncserver:
(1) vncserver does not exit cleanly and remove the vncviewer window on the client requiring that either the client kill the vncviewer window (which leaves a dead vncserver on the server, or you must ssh into the host running vncserver and manually kill the stuck session with vncserver -kill :1. After issuing the vncserver -kill, the vncviewer window is properly removed from the client machine.
NOTE - the above is independent of the WM chosen for vncserver. It happens regardless of whether you have chosen TWM, icewm or kde as your desktop in ~/.vnc/xstartup
When I say it doesn't exit cleanly, what I mean is that when you attempt to log out of your vncviewer session by the normal KDE/icewm/TWM logout procedure, the window isn't closed, it just stays there as an unresponsive window on the client until you either manually close it by clicking the X in the titlebar or by killing it on the server with vncserver -kill
(2) resizing windows in icewm as the windows manager for vncserver while using the title bar of a window to shrink or grow the windows smaller or bigger crashes the vncviewer session.
More testing. The vncviewer window crash occurs very regularly if you try to increase or decrease the height of a window from the middle of the titlebar or the bottom of the window. Resize works OK if you are doing both the height and width at the same time by grabbing a corner of the window. When the window crashes the vncserver session is not dead and is still running and you can reconnect to it by another vncviewer -geometry 1280x800 -depth 16 :1 call. Talk about Murphy's Law! It won't close when I want it to but then it turns right around and closes when I don't want it to -- Go figure... -- David C.
