I agree, but I also think part of the issue with the greeter is it
doesn't serve much usefulness anymore. No user is interested in learning
about where Linux came from when they first boot into the desktop.
Pre-10.3, it served one useful purpose: it directed users who bought the
boxed edition to register for technical support, which even then was
useless, on the back of the DVD jewel case it directs you to do the same
thing.
I think that in 11.1 the web browsers should redirect to a start page
with a search engine link, and links to the forums, IRC chat,
mailinglists, etc. That will probably help the users more than the
greeter will.
