Actually, I doubt users that never heared anything about linux will go with an uncommented DVD download. They go with an uncommented live - where they can play with the desktop and learn WTF GNOME is or they go with a DVD that they got with a nice manual or some commentary in a magazine. Trying to create the installation dialogs in a vacuum is nonsense.
