I have an HP Compaq nc6220 laptop display resolution 1400x1050. Intel GMA900 graphics. I praised SuSE always in previous releases because it was the only distribution that correctly supported the resolution out of the box with no hacks needed. Now in 10.3 it broke. To make the resolution work each time I reload x server I need to use RandR to set the resolution. It defaults to 1152x786 58hz. When I run SaX test it also says "Screen (0) 1152 x 786" however everything is configured right. Why did this break???
Due to the state of X development, and the radically changed and changing Intel drivers and xrandr in particular, if it was up to me the release of 10.3 would have been delayed by a whole bunch of months. Did you read the release notes, or the many threads discussing video problems, in particular, http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2007-10/msg04251.html and related messages leading up to it, both same and other threads? OpenSUSE 10.3 is not the only recently released distro with Intel driver and/or X resolution trouble. Look at the discussion of /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup in https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=331609 as possibly you may find a solution in that method if your GMA900 isn't too new. -- Jesus Christ, the reason for the season.
