Maybe / maybe not the place to ask, but what would be the technical reason for making a /boot partition? I make one out of habit as a result of getting it in before the first 4 gigs of the hard drive from the good old days.
As of today GRUB can't read/boot the Linux kernel from a LVM volume. So if you use LVM you have no choice and have to use a separate /boot partition. Or when I use Xen I always set up a separate /boot partitions on all my domU without a journaling filesystem.
