Picked this off another list. Never heard of this project, so if others are interested (tho' y'all probably know all about it!).
More interesting still is edubuntu, an 'official' version of ubuntu packaged with schools directly in mind. At the moment they're focussing on classroom and desktop level stuff, with a desktop or server install. The desktop stuff is pretty much what you expect, but the server install comes with LTSP, SchoolTool (The Shuttleworth Foundation's embryonic school management information system), mediawiki and Moodle (virtual learning envirnoment) running out of the box. There's a CD version available for testing (do please give it a try, esp if you've got LTSP clients around) and launch is scheduled for mid October alongside the next ubunutu release. I believe they'd also appreciate help with artwork and documentation. Later on, it's hoped to have a live CD version, as well as more school level packages on the disk.
