I re-installed our SUSE linux (8.2) on a new box (with new monitor). resolution on next boot.
ISTR that CTL-SHFT with + and - should change the resolution - once you have started an X session - but nothing seems to work.
My advice would be for you to edit:
/etc/X11/XF86Config
Did that - logging in remotely. changed default to 800x600
Unless you know exactly what you're doing in XF86Config DON'T manually edit it.
Agh!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now you tell me.
/etc/init.d/xdm stop
run sax2 then run SuSEconfig then init5
"telinit 5" is more appropriate. Check the manpage.
Am I supposed to do this after starting in safe mode - or remotely - or doesn't it matter. Of course I have to do su command if I log in remotely. -- Alan Davies
