Best way to use Moodle is not by having classes created by the admin, but by having the pupils register for each course as they need to - then all you have to setup is the teachers/course creators - and even those can be created by the user registering, then the admin just has to give them the right permissions. Of course Moodle can be set to authenticate to LDAP (the non-eunuch version of Active Directory), so persuading it to talk to AD shouldn't be too difficult, even if a little self-defeatist.
