My original reason for joining was not necessarily because of implementing Linux in schools, but using Linux in education (home **or** shoool) and Linux education (learning about/teaching Linux). I have loads and loads of education and edutainment software for Windows. I am very pleased with most of it, even if it is to the extent that I would simply want my kids to be playing these games rather than "real" games full of violence. Still, I have a number that are really good. However, I would like to see more Linux educational software, and not just for my kids! I am trying to get my kids to be more interested in Linux as they get Windows crammed down their throats everywhere, so I welcome anything that helps at all. I also like this forum as a place to discuss Linux in education, as well as education *about* Linux. I am working on an extensive tutorial which deals with Linux as well as basic computer and Internet topics (see my .sig). Right now I have about 500 questions (multiple choice and T/F) and have a lot more to go. I would **love** to hear from educators about it. Give me feedback please.
The purpose of suse-schools-usa@suse.com is to provide an exchange of ideas and discussion forum for issues pertaining to the implementation of the Linux operating system in K-12 schools. Appropriate posts could address issues such as curriculum involving Linux, classroom practices, the implementation of Linux in the classroom and schoolwide, development of Linux based applications for education and the use of Linux in schools as a more cost effective approach to delivering educational services.
People that would benefit most to this list are teachers, parents, school administrators, school system administrators and educational software developers. We welcome anyone from around the world to help us better develop our ideas and the way that we service our students.
* Technical support questions may be better addressed for SuSe Linux and other brands of Linux in other appropriate newsgroups.
