The centre manager went to the Microsoft stand and listened to the XP
presentation. He then talk part in a quiz and won a prize of a MS
Internet Keyboard! The nice shiny box was slightly damaged, but he
wasn't concerned. He was however rather more concerned when he got it
home. The box was empty... MS living up to its image?
BTW, the next generation of thin client Linux boxes won't have a hard
drive and would therefore be unable to run windows.

SuSE couldn't find a partner - I believe last year they were on the IBM stand. I'm going tomorrow, but I've been told there wasn't much interesting.
Did Fen System's look good? I'm trying to sell their solution for them (not on commission) and some of these people are a touch shallow...
I enjoyed meeting Michael Brown at Fen, and chatting for a few minutes. The stand is small, but is nicely set out. The products are clearly defined and with investigation by punters, the products will appeal. Nice one Michael. "Shallow people" will go for the glitz of the Microsoft stand, which in terms of real estate is predictably dominating. They are pushing some new-fangle gadget (something called "XP"?). They seemed to think it was quite good. I spoke to a representative on the stand, and was particularly impressed with a 'School Agreement' scheme, wherein, as I'm sure you'll know (I didn't), you purchase licences for all you workstations _capable_ of running Microsoft product. Splendid. You even have to licence your Linux boxes for Microsoft products, because they are on-site. Oh, and you don't even have the burden of owning the licence. You rent it. I thought this sounded like an excellent scheme, and, after recovering from my choking episode, I pointed out the merits and demerits of his plan for our school. He analysed our particular situation, and thought that, on reflection, some other purchase scheme may suit us best. I agreed with him that he was probably right, and we parted. A good day - low Linux presence :( -- Matt __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo!
