complete newbie. What tools are there available for formatting and spanning partitions across disks (scsi) if it makes any difference. (6.4 hsve only played with Kde desktop so far)
I think LVM might do what you want. I haven't played with it, but I'm sure it's configurable from YaST. I have, however, used software-RAID which could also do what you want - you'll essentially be combining (spanning) partitions from various disks into one virtual device (/dev/md*). If you've got raidtools installed, type "man 5 raidtab" - this will tell you how to set up a config file (/etc/raidtab). You'll also need to initialise the RAID device before use. Note, though, that you'll most likely have to recompile your kernel. If you're going to use a 2.2 series kernel, you'll need Mingo's RAID patches, available from http://people.redhat.com/mingo/raid-patches/ . 2.4 kernels have the updates drivers installed. Hopefully that's what you wanted :) Dan -- dankolb@ox.compsoc.net Oxford University Computer Society Secretary --I reserve the right to be completely wrong about any comments or opinions expressed; don't trust everything you read above--
