I am trying to get my modem seen - internal 56K ISA type. Are the 4 'ports' that the modem can be assigned to in fact ports, or are they aliases? I'm sure that I saw somewhere in the manual a modem being aliased as 'tulip' When I try to auto detect the modem, LINUX only appears to look at serial ports 0 and 1 (internal cards tend to sit at 3 or 4) and then announces that no modem can be found, or that it may be in use elsewhere. I intend digging deeper over the weekend, but any ideas in the meantime please?
