I unstalled the SUSE linux about 10 days ago, but have only had a chance to look at it over the last three days. I managed to configure a network card and can use the machine as a web server, accessible from anywhere on the school network. I have installed the netware client and have now managed to access my files from the linux box. I have connected to a netware printer queue using a linux supplied driver ( chosen from the list ) and have printed successfully.
Ihave installed applix Officeware ( I await a Star Office CD - a free office suite from Sun, available for Win 9* or Linux). Once Star is installed on Linux and Win 9* I shall have a completely transparent system - pupils will be able to use Linux or Windows with no difference (assuming Star Office stores in a common file format for each platform).
StarOffice is in the box ... We think that their next version will be out very soon, however. Yes, I'm sure that the file format is the same for all platforms.
The only job left is to find a way for users to access their email - we use mercry and Pegasus, which puts the email directly into their filespace. This shouldn't be too difficult ( I hope).
Not bad for only a few days work.
Well done: good luck.
Really pleased with myself!!
