/etc/sysconfig/hotplug wie nachfolgend zitiert geändert. Udev läuft weiterhin und kreiert mir für regelmäßig verwendete USB-Geräte mittels *.rules geeignete mountpoints, die ich in der fstab verwende. Neue Geräte (etwa solche von Kollegen für den schnellen Datenaustausch) mounte ich wie gehabt als root.
