Hi,
are there any plans to include the recently announced CentOS 8 Devel repo [1] in OBS?
no, I was not aware off...
It provides some of the devel packages missing in RHEL8, which are important for buildroots. Notably, libuv-devel [2] is one such example, which is blocking many projects.
added them now.
Thanks for the quick addition of the repository!
Please do not make it part of the standard target, as the availability of such packages are not guaranteed, and has no counterpart in RHEL.
uhm, well, not sure if this is our problem .. I suppose CentOS won't take it away?
The RHEL target is anyway relative useless without RHN packages IMHO...
It's already been deleted for CentOS Stream, so I wouldn't count on it sticking around forever. The idea is that people are supposed to be filing bugs to Red Hat to have these packages added to the CodeReady Builder repo (PowerTools repo in CentOS), and this is a stopgap until that gets handled more fluidly.
RHEL is handling these missing devel packages at a glacier pace [rhbz#1759510, rhbz#1764048]. It's been almost a year since the initial release of RHEL 8 and I'm still still unable to build packages due to missing -devel packages.
I'm very grateful for both the CentOS 8 Devel repo and its inclusion in OBS. Please keep it available until the missing package issues are *actually fixed* in RHEL 8.

I am not suggesting removing it. I am suggesting that Devel doesn't get automatically enabled as part of the standard target. Having it optional means that it won't break when they randomly delete it from time to time. -- 真実はいつも一つ!/ Always, there's only one truth! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-buildservice+owner@opensuse.org
