http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1140567 Bug ID: 1140567 Summary: Don't use VMVGA video with OpenSuse 15.0 and 15.1 as a guest. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KVM Assignee: kvm-bugs@suse.de Reporter: pheadley@linxco-inc.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- This post might be related to post #1111076. If it is, the problem still exists. The host is running openSUSE 42.3 with kernel 4.4.126-48-default. The guests are OpenSuse 15.1 and 15.0. I initially tried to upgrade from 42.3 and then started from scratch. I also tried installing the new versions with and without the repositories selected. The symptom is that after the installation completes the machine will not boot. Plymouth doesn't load a theme during booting. Eventually, a text display appears. The screen flickers several times and then hangs at an apparent arbitrary point in the boot sequence. The original VM was several years old. At some point I had set the video hardware to VMVGA. Don't recall why. Machines that don't exhibit the issue are using QXL. At first I thought it was a problem with the VM partition but, after several attempts to fix that I decided to look at the KVM VM configuration. So, I don't know if this is a bug or a feature but my recommendation is to not ever select VMVGA when installing OpenSuSE as the guest OS on a host running OpenSuSE. Once I selected QXL, the installation went without a hitch. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
