--- Comment #49 from Michael Hirmke ---
With the latest Tumbleweed snapshot 20190325 and kernel 5.0.3 the behaviour has
changed a little bit:
Using my actual vconsole.conf
KEYMAP=de-nodeadkeys
FONT=eurlatgr.psfu
FONT_MAP=
FONT_UNIMAP=
I get no more errors in my journal, but still have a US keyboard layout for
entering the LUKS passphrase.
With the sample from the vconsole manpage
EXAMPLE
Example 1. German keyboard and console
/etc/vconsole.conf:
KEYMAP=de-latin1
FONT=eurlatgr
I get the usual errors like before:
systemd-vconsole-setup[421]: KD_FONT_OP_GET failed while trying to get the font
metadata: Function not implemented
systemd-vconsole-setup[421]: Fonts will not be copied to remaining consoles
systemd-vconsole-setup[420]: KD_FONT_OP_GET failed while trying to get the font
metadata: Function not implemented
systemd-vconsole-setup[420]: Fonts will not be copied to remaining consoles
Of course in this case I also don't have a German keyboard layout for entering
the LUKS passphrase.
In both cases I recreated the initrd before testing.
