I realized it was due to Secure Boot.
So after deactivating SB, Leap could boot KOTD, and the Gnome session ended up
like for the default Leap kernel. So no improvement. Either it is not a bug in
the kernel or it is one that has not yet been detected.
I had another idea which was to disable all programs that were configured to
boot at Gnome session opening (in gnome-tweaks program). Apparently it helped
and the Gnome desktop would not freeze 10 seconds after session opening (2
attempts, 2 success): I could launch Firefox and navigate WWW like 1 min
without troubles. But it froze as soon as I opened Gnome control panel or ran
xrandr.
I must stop investigating for now but I will try to resume this during next
weekend. I probably should check what application changed the behavior after I
disabled it at Gnome session opening.
