I ran a diff on two initrds - one that works (good) and one that doesn't (bad).
I do like it when the person who reports the bug also find the cause - I just need to sit and wait :-)
# cat bad/etc/cmdline.d/95nfs.conf
This implies that the initramfs was created by dracut when run with the --hostonly (or -H) option. To quote the man page:
This has the drawback, that you can’t put the disk on another controller or machine, and that you can’t switch to another root filesystem, without recreating the initramfs image.
and
The usage of the --hostonly option is only for experts and you will have to keep the broken pieces.
