Yep I agree it should not work 100% and be tested, just zypper infra should be robust enough to not explode on its own, esp if it is cheap, you can just "zypper in <subsetofpkgs> ; zypper dup" to get it working.
Latest when the RPM version changes and librpm changes soname, you run into even deeper crap, as then you have to take PackageKit, which in turn might include GNOME Software, and then the gnome libraries and oh, wait - now we are almost at the entire system already.
