Okay, since there was no further discussion, let's assume that removing
drm-kmp-default and keeping it removed (zypper addlock) is fine.
Daniel, meanwhile we've wisened up a bit, and found that Intel chips older than
Skylake suffer from issues with the drm-kmp package, yet even newer kernels
without a DRM backport seem to be fine. So we're now recommending uninstalling
the package, and leaving it at that:
sudo zypper remove drm-kmp-default
sudo zypper addlock drm-kmp-default
(please reboot after this)
Yes, it is perfectly safe to leave that package blacklisted. The backport of
the DRM stack from 4.9 to 4.4 was done purely to enable Kaby Lake, and not for
any security reasons at all.
For similar cases, please see boo#1051115 and boo#1052106.
Thank you for your bug report!
If the problem persists even after removing drm-kmp-default, please REOPEN this
bug.
