http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1066058 Bug ID: 1066058 Summary: MDM doesn't use update-alternatives to override XDM Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Factory Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: jimc@math.ucla.edu QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- This is for Tumbleweed 2017-10-29, xdm-1.1.11-28.1, mdm-2.0.18-2.7 . MDM belongs to obs://build.opensuse.org/X11 . Formerly /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager sets the environment variable DISPLAYMANAGER="mdm". Starting with the above xdm version, this setting is ignored and update-alternatives is used instead. The unit file execs /usr/lib/X11/display-manager which execs /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/default-displaymanager , symlink to /etc/alternatives/default-displaymanager , symlink to actual program. The symptom complained about is, xdm is used as the display manager, versus the desired mdm as configured in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager . If you check the alternative state by update-alternatives --config default-displaymanager , you find that mdm has not advertised itself as a (more preferred) alternative to xdm. The sysop can do the following command line by hand, and I'm suggesting to add the corresponding %post script to the package. Since you wouldn't install mdm unless you really wanted it, I suggest a higher priority than xdm (which is 10). update-alternatives --install \ /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/default-displaymanager \ default-displaymanager /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/mdm 15 I assume that more mainline display managers like kdm and gdm already have their alternatives updated. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
